Body and face are all the same color. Self chins have blue tinted eyes, true selfs have brown eyes.
Here is a similar color progression with a black self chin (he's appears to be black, but carries the chin gene and has blue/brown marbled eyes).
The same black self chin at 10 months old.
Notice the lighter colored fiber, while the face and ears stay black.
Self chins are almost identical in coloration to true self rabbits. Check the eye color!
BLACK SELF
Black self rabbits are solid black in color. In angoras they are born solid black and as their fiber grows out it becomes more of a silver color. The guard hairs usually keep their black coloration against the sea of silver down fibers that surround them. Eyes should be brown and the head, ears and hairier portions of their legs stay black.
Two black hybrid kits at approximately 4 days of age. They are solid silky black.
A 9 week old purebred German kit. Notice the brown eye and lighter coloration to her fiber starting to happen?
An adult black German doe that has good color in her fiber.
Darker adult fiber is a goal for the new colored Germans, and time will hopefully get us toward that goal.
